(USA, 1890 - 1976)
These large 18ct rose gold earrings were originally designed by Man Ray in 1961 after lampshades he had created much earlier in 1919, and were most famously worn by a young Catherine Deneuve in a photograph also by Man Ray. The large hoops are intended to be worn over the ears in order to take the weight of the 14cm high pendant spirals. Later in 1970 a limited edition of 12 pairs were produced by his close friend Giancarlo Montebello.
Spiral pendant: 14 x 2.6 cm
